What's on the Menu?
A wide range of delicious lunches are carefully prepared on site each day, using fresh ingredients, by our resident Nursery Cook, Claire. Children are encouraged to try a variety of different foods and eat independently. Menus are balanced and changed according to season and to introduce new meals. Sometimes, we are able to use produce that we have grown at the nursery in our meals and snacks.
We follow guidance from Eat Better Start Our menus are balanced and nutritious based on the four food groups listed below which provide a range of essential nutrients that children need to grow and develop:
- Potatoes, bread, rice and pasta and other starchy carbohydrates
- Fruit and vegetables
- Beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins
- Dairy and alternatives
Snacks are also provided mid morning and mid afternoon. Fresh fruit or vegetables are always on offer each day alongside a variety of other good for example, cheese and biscuits, toast, pitta and hummus, crumpets, breadsticks.
Sample lunches:
- Shepherds pie and freshly cooked vegetables
- Home made pizza, potato wedges served with cucumber and carrot sticks
- Vegetable Dahl with rice and freshly cooked vegetables served with naan bread
- Lasagne, fresh vegetables, bread and butter
- Beef cobbler, mashed potato and freshly cooked vegetables
- Macaroni cheese, bread and butter, freshly cooked vegetables
- Cod, haddock and salmon fish pie with freshly cooked vegetables
- Chicken casserole with dumplings, freshly cooked vegetables
- Kedgeree with bread and butter and freshly cooked vegetables
- Spaghetti Bolognaise with freshly cooked vegetables
- Tomato pasta bake, with freshly cooked vegetables
- Jacket potatoes, with baked beans and cheese, served with carrot and cucumber sticks
Sample second courses:
- Fruit and yoghurt
- Cheese, biscuits and fruit
- Fruit kebabs
- Fruit platter
Water is on offer throughout the nursery day and is served with lunch. At morning and afternoon snack times a choice of water or plain milk* is offered.

We limit the number of sugary baked goods but sometimes we may have home baked biscuits, flapjacks or cakes to celebrate birthdays.
We work hard to maintain our Level 5* Hygiene rating each year.
