The Granary Nursery School

Extra curricular
Forest School
As part of our enhanced curriculum, we offer Forest School sessions led by a qualified Forest School Leader. The whole nursery has access to these sessions which take place in the adjacent woodland on different days all year round, to allow as many children as possible to take part. We provide waterproof trousers for all children and request that parents send their children in wearing appropriate clothing and layers to to keep warm and dry. All children should wear wellies and clothing that is easy to remove as necessary - joggers are ideal for this! Children have a tendency to get muddy and dirty at every opportunity and enjoy the chance to explore and take risks in a supported environment. From time to time we also enjoy campfires and campfire cooking.
Swimming
Children at the nursery have the opportunity to swim all year round at The Granary Nursery with Swim on the Hill. The pool is enclosed with a Perspex dome and the water is maintained at a really warm temperature allowing the children to feel very relaxed.
Each swimming session lasts approximately 30-40 minutes and is taught by a qualified swimming instructor, a qualified swimming instructor Kirsty and assistant teacher.
The children are introduced to basic swimming techniques with confidence building activities. They have lots of fun and often use and adapt songs, games and ideas from their mornings in the nursery, so that the whole experience becomes an extension of their play. Kirsty has a wide collection of water toys for games and children use armbands, floats and woggles as swimming aids.

Ballet
The Pre-School Ballet lessons taught by Miss Anna from Angela Rowe School of Dance to develop basic movement skills, musical awareness, expression and creativity. The classes encourage class participation, focus and confidence that prepare students for entry to Pre-Primary levels at full time school age. The classes are appropriate for students between the ages of three and rising five.
At the Angela Rowe School of Dance the main aim is enjoyment but with careful training. The exercises are designed to be fun without the children realising the training purpose behind them. Good training is essential and all our teachers have had a three-year dance teacher’s training as well as having worked as professional dancers.
Anna would be delighted to see you in her classes at the Granary Nursery School. These sessions will lead into classes outside of school hours once the children move on to Reception.
Please note: Ballet classes are offered to children attending Butterfly Class only.
